POSITION SUMMARY

The Music Therapist draws upon the unique healing aspects of music within a therapeutic relationship, to address the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of the residents. The Music Therapist also represents Parc Provence to the residents, their guests, families and the community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities described below are representative, but not necessarily all-inclusive, of the position:
  • Structure the use of instrumental and vocal musical strategies to facilitate wellness.
  • Plan or assist in conducting activities and to participate with the residents.
  • Define the role of music therapy in the resident's total treatment program.
  • Collaborate with team members in designing and implementing interdisciplinary treatment programs to achieve the goal of activity based, person-centered care.
  • Manage/maintain therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Provide services in group/individual settings congruent to the level of resident(s) functions.
  • Assess residents, prepare and deliver individualized programs, and maintain appropriate documentation of resident responses.
  • Complete monthly billing.
  • Create goals for residents that are on case load.
  • Follow State Regulations and policies and procedures as set by the Activity Director and Administration in all areas of duties.
  • Required to work weekends, holidays, after scheduled hours if necessary for normal weekend shift coverage, projects, special functions, etc.
  • Follow established guidelines for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding residents and their personal information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Must have a Bachelor's degree in music therapy from an American Music Therapy Association approved college. Must be board certified through the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) and have the credentials MT-BC (Music Therapist-Board Certified).

Experience:

Prefer special dementia training

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to understand and follow directions.

Oral/Written Communication Skills:

Ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to interact pleasantly and effectively with staff, residents and families and possess clear verbal and written communication skills.
